We are members of Kenya group in MMCE class!!

Ai Sugawara:

I talked with USA group members. She taught us USA’s cities, geography, and USA’s guest. I was surprised when I heard guest thought Japanese people were fashionable because American didn’t put on formal shoes. I thought Americans were more fashionable than Japanese. And I knew many names of states through the presentation. I thought this presentation was fun and useful.

Hiroaki Koiwa:

I enjoyed this class. First, I had wrong images about Kenya. But I talked with Kenya people, I understood about Kenya so much. I enjoyed talking other country people.

Kanae Satou:

I enjoyed this class very much. I realized that “truth” is not only one and “correct” is also not only one. When I watched American TV program I shocked that how American see Japanese. When I talked with Mr. Atungulu, I learned new point of view to see Japanese. There are many surprising in this class. Before the class I thought 異文化理解 means to understand each culture. This was correct but I realized I didn’t know another culture. I think people who living a country knows own culture and to know the culture we should communicate with them. That’s why presentation class was very fun and interesting.

After the class I want to see the world in many point of view. Also, I want to think about own country.

Yosuke Ogata:

I didn’t have any knowledge about Kenya, so I had some strange images and prejudices about them, for example “naked”, ”Masai”, and so on for the first time but I found my first information about them was wrong by investigating them by myself and talking with Kenyan. Kenyan images for Japan was wrong, for example “Samurai” and I could hear that what they think about Japan and Mr. Atungulu’s evaluation about us after he came Japan, so I was very interested in his opinion and felt this talk was very fun. In this way, increasing new knowledge lead to spreading my view to the world and also more understand Japan from now on by comparison with other countries and their opinion to Japan. I think this two points are significances for MMCE. Some times, I was absent from this class for diseases but I think I worked in this class very hard with my group’s members. This experience will be very useful for me.

Yukiko Yagita:

Recently, the word ”異文化理解” flies around us. Although we examine other countries and cultures with Internet to know them, we don't know whether the information is correct or not. Also we can’t confirm the accuracy of the information easily. So though this class I noticed that we had much wrong information, prejudices and made misunderstanding.

My group examined Kenya. Kenya is very far-off country for me. Therefore I didn’t have much information about Kenya. On Japanese TV, the images of Kenya are a lot of animals, natures, starvation, naked, Masai, marathon race, good eyesight, developing country, a sacred war and so on. But Mr. Atungulu who was from Kenya told that most information was wrong and excessive. As I talked with him, I really felt that. I found that Kenya was a safer, healthier and happier country than I expected. There are not a sacred war or many dentists. The most surprising thing was that he had never been to a dentist in Kenya! He said that he went to a dentist in Japan for the first time. I listened that Kenyan took care of their family and helped each other. Then I thought that how nice Kenyan are!

When I speak to other country people, every time I think that I am ignorant. Because I can’t tell anyone my country and culture. So I am often ashamed of me. From now on I want to know various countries and my country.

I enjoyed this class and spent precious time. In our daily life, we can’t have the opportunity that we speak to people from various countries. I learned a lot of things through this class. I want to thank you and many guests. Thank you very much!!

Group works were very hard, but it was epoch-making and good for communication. My group member was hard and we could cooperate to do our works. So I think that we had a good job.

Finally, I want to apologize to you, because I was often late for this class due for bad condition or oversleeping.
