Why did you choose your particular answers?

The shabby Guitar Player

I will feel fear, because he is not my acquaintance. But I will not be able to say to him even if I feel so, because he is unfortunate . But I may expect the waiter to remove him.

A welcome at the airport

I will think she is impolite. I think that we should wear formal wear when we attend formal business meeting. I think jeans and sandals are out of questions.

The Returning Athlete

To participate in the Olympic games is difficult and great things. I think we should prepare official welcome even if she could not win the game. Because she gave dreams to many children who live in a small town.

A Virtual Contact

I thought it is impolite to call suddenly, and to write a letter on my company letterhead is dangerous because I do not know about the person at all. When we send a mail, not to write my name is impolite.

The assignment of MMCE, gwhat would you do?h and ghow would you feel?h

  • The Shabby Guitar Player

I chose No.2, 4 and 6. I felt gthe man is filthy and disgusting.h and gI do not know this man, and I have nothing to do with him.h and gthe waiter should remove this man.h

Why I chose these answers is that No.2 is just my first impression as I do not know him at all. Why I chose No.4 and No.6 is because I do not want to have anything to do with him, but I cannot say him "Please sit down another table." directly.

I think my answer have something to do with the individualist dimension. I think everyone in the world have their own common-space. Common-space means the space which is around our own body and which we are not disturbed by anyone. Everyone have different range of common-space. In this case, when the shabby man comes to my table, I feel that he disturb my common-space and I want him to remove to another table. Though I do not know whether this case can be said this is influenced by individualist, I think the individualist dimension is the nearest of the five.

  • A Welcome at the Airport

I chose No.2 and 3. I felt gshe is probably the person with whom I will have the meeting.h and git is wonderful to be welcomed so warmly."

Why I chose No.2 because the woman held a sign with my name on it. Why I chose No.3 because I might be nervous when I meet someone whom I have never met before, and if I am welcomed warmly after that, I will be relaxed and I will appreciate the warm welcome.

I think my answer is influenced by the uncertainty avoidance. If this case should be happened in Japan, I will be surprised at the woman's welcome because Japanese think it is polite to wear a suit when we meet someone whom we have a formal business meeting with. So I think the woman's style is too casual before a formal meeting in Japan. However I think it is a very kind welcome to relax the person that has never met with her.

  • The Returning Athlete

I chose No.3. I thought gA big one, because even if she did not win, she did participate in the Olympic games and that is a great achievement.h

Why I chose No.3 because I think participating in the Olympic games deserves a medal.

I think my answer is influenced by the feminine society because it is a really kind society though she could not get the medal.

  • A Virtual Contact

I chose No.2. I thought gSend an e-mail starting eDear Mr. so-and-sof and ending eKind regards, Xf.h

Why I chose No.2 because I think it is a polite way and quick way to send the e-mail in this context.

I think my answer is influenced by short-term orientation, because my opinion is based on the idea that places a special emphasis on fulfilling social obligation.

I think these are influenced by my national value. But not only it.

They are influenced by the character of the person.

In summery, national values are more influences than characters.
